One of the most important pieces of work Rebecca did for RPS was her detailed investigation intohow much it costs to play Diablo Immortal- a piece I’m still immensely proud to have published on the site, and which exemplifies how we’ve tried to approach our guides work ever since, especially when it comes to games built on microtransactions. Our focus has always been on what’s best for the player, not for a publisher’s pockets, and her diligent build guides have always emphasised what’s free and good at no extra cost.
Outside of guides, and as hinted at above, Rebecca was also ourvisual novel champion, and she brought her expert, in-depth knowledge of the genre to our game of the year lists as well as ourIndiescovery podcastat every available opportunity.
She was also one of our big horror likers on the team, and some of my favourite non-guides pieces she’s written for the site over the years include her big interview with Supermassive Games abouthow their Dark Pictures Anthology ties together, her review ofThe Sims 4’s Werewolves pack, and her chats withBloober Team about Layers Of Fearand publisher DreadXP about theirwide and varied slate of indie horror games. Her list ofhorror-themed dating simswas also one of my highlights from last year’s Halloween Week.
But it’s not just horror and visual novels where Rebecca made her mark on the site outside of her stellar guides work. If you missedher retrospective on Kentucky Route Zeroas part of our GOTY Revisited series, I’d strongly recommend checking that out, as well as herlove letter to Bioshock Infinite’s Lutece Twins, and her heated op ed onwhy Hades is still the worst dad ever.
